Family Matters - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Family Matters is the third book by the critically acclaimed Indian-born author Rohinton Mistry.
It is set in the city of Bombay, where Mistry was born and grew up, and tells the story of a middle-class Parsi family living through a domestic crisis.
Through one family, Mistry conveys everything from the dilemmas among India's Parsis, Persian-descended Zoroastrians, to the wider concerns of corruption and communalism.

I think Family Matters really jumped the shark around Season 7 when Urkel moved in although there were things in season 5 and 6 that annoyed me like Judy's disapperance, and it was like she never even existed, Stefan Urquelle, and Carl becoming an Urkel but it was still watchable then.
Family Matters was a pretty crappy show from the get-go but it really JTS when it became the Urkel show.

Family Matters by Rohinton Mistry - read review
Receiving a review copy of Family Matters was like the greatest of surprises, Christmas, and the first day of school all wrapped up in a padded envelope.
And so, while the minutia of a family's life and struggles are often mundane, Mistry masterfully weaves a reality that is both compelling and easy to relate to.
Family Matters may focus more narrowly than A Fine Balance did, but the grace and truth of Rohinton Mistry's writing still haunts and touches his readers just as profoundly.

 Family Matters - Rohinton Mistry - MyBindi.com
The story revolves around Nariman Vakeel, an aging retired professor who is battling not only his demons from the past and his present day Parkison's disease but also his two grown stepchildren, both of whom are unmarried and unemployed: Coomy, a bitter and bossy middle-aged woman, and Jal, her easily intimidated, unambitious brother.
Family Matters is a skillfully woven tapestry of mostly lamentable stories of the residents of these two buildings (which are ironically called "Chateau Felicity" and "Pleasant Villa") and also parallels the story of Bombay itself and its own crumbling state.
However, in Family Matters you will meet three generations of one family, where every character is made larger than life by Mistry's painstaking detail in capturing their every mood and emotion.

The novel is a portrait of family life and the strife among siblings amidst moments of grace when an aging parent requires care; it is also a rich account of life in Bombay's Parsi community in the mid-1990s.
While family caregiving occupies much of the narrative, contemporary life in Bombay occupies another layer as Yezad succumbs to a corrupt plot to deceive his employer for financial gain.
All said, Family Matters is a wonderfully written story of an ordinary family faced with the trials of caregiving and the changes in individuals and in relationships brought about by such challenges.

The Winslows were a loving family (and one that didn't speak in ebonics just because they're fl) who faced difficult problems in their lives and so forth.
The Winslow family consisted of the sometimes impulsive Carl (VelJohnson), the father; Harriet the intelligent mother (Judyann Elder); the oldest son, Eddie (McCrary); the oldest daughter, Laura (Kellie Shanygne Williams); the youngest sister Judy (Jaimee Foxworth), who appeared occasionally before disappearing altogether; and later, they added a little fellow named Ritche (Bryton McClure).
And they were a pretty funny family, especially in the moments between Carl Winslow (Reginald VelJohnson), the father of the household, and his dufus friend, Urkel, which went on for some time the way Dennis the Menace often got on the nerves of George Wilson.

A constant source of irritation to friends and strangers alike, Urkel is madly in love with Laura and hopeful that she will return his devotion one day; unfortunately for him, that day isn't coming anytime soon, so for the moment he has lent his heart to his equally cerebral, jealous girlfriend Myra (Michelle Thompson).
As for Carl, no matter how hard he tries to avoid Urkel, he is often the victim of the young man's string of mishaps and accidents.
