It Runs in the Family. Movie Review @ Hollywood.com - The best online source for movie reviews.   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
His performance aside, It Runs in the Family is notable for its four-for-the-price-of-one special on Douglases: There's grandpa Kirk, his ex-wife Diana as the grandmother of the clan, son Michael and grandson Cameron in his first role.
Still, the Douglases seems to take great joy in their own movie and in working together, and that brings a certain joy to the audience; despite its pervasive cherish-your-family theme, there are moments when it doesn't go over the top, and these are charming--if few and far between.
For all the actors are really a family, they don't seem very comfortable with one another on the screen, so their characters' squabbles and heartfelt admissions come off stilted and forced, their reactions seem too controlled and their relationships, ironically, don't give the audience a sense of any real bond between them.

 ‘The Addams Family’ (PG-13)
For family friends, it would seem a viewing is de rigueur mortis.
The only truly scary thing about the movie is Granny's cooking, which combines recipes from "The Joy of Cooking" with suggestions from "Gray's Anatomy." Otherwise it is a gothically convivial, if utterly silly scenario penned by Larry Wilson and Caroline Thompson of "Beetlejuice" and "Edward Scissorhands," respectively.
An ooky, kooky, spooky oeuvre, "The Addams Family" is decidedly not for the grave.

The Quiet Family Movie Review by Anthony Leong from MediaCircus.net
The family in question is the Kangs, who have moved from Seoul to operate the Misty Lodge, an isolated mountain lodge.
The family is dominated by no-nonsense father Tae-gu (Park In-hwan of "One Fine Spring Day"), with loyal wife (Na Mun-hee) always at his side.
Clues are provided in that the story is told from the perspective of Mi-na, a 17-year old full of cynicism and gloom (think Christina Ricci in "The Addams Family"), and she appears in the film's opening scene, where she complains that "it's been thirteen days since we moved from the city...

The Addams Family & Addams Family Values
This wasn't her first movie - actually, it was her third, after turns in both Mermaids and The Hard Way - but it was a breakout performance as she stole every since in which she appeared with her morbidly dark but wittily nasty tone.
The first movie used a very bleak, colorless palette for the most part; while it wasn't quite fl and white, it wasn't that far from it, especially during the scenes that took place in the Addams mansion.
While not a very old movie, it appeared before Dolby Digital or DTS really entered the marketplace; by 1993, Dolby Digital had been in cinemas for a year or so and DTS also hit the screens, so that's really the first year that I expect "modern" audio from a film.

The Addams Family was a so-so 90s "classic TV series to movie" transition that was the popular wave.
The secret to the Addams Family is not that they're dark and macabre to shock you into laughing; they could've easily started throwing gooey brains and severed body parts around for cheap laughs, but refrained from being crass.
The Addams Family was the brainchild of Charles Addams (1912-1988).
