FamilyMart is a "konbini" or convenience store franchise chain in Japan.
FamilyMart is owned and overseen by FamilyMart Co., Ltd. All of the usual Japanese convenience store goods such as magazines, manga, soft drinks, contraceptives, onigiri and bento are available.
As of this writing, FamilyMart also plans to open a store in Los Angeles, the United States, in July of 2005.

Japanese convenience store operator FamilyMart Co. has invited former military personnel to be the owners of its franchise outlets as they are well-disciplined, a spokesman said Thursday.
FamilyMart, Japan's third largest convenience store chain operator, launched a programme in late November to hire former members of the Self-Defence Forces.
FamilyMart is recruiting former servicemen and women through an association that helps them find jobs, offering a 50 percent discount on the three million yen (27,800 dollar) start-up money needed to buy a store franchise.

Japan's major convenience store operator FamilyMart Co. on Monday opened its first franchise chain outlet in Shanghai after China lifted a ban on foreign FC outlets earlier this month.
FamilyMart, which currently owns 43 directly operated stores in Shanghai, plans to change most of them to the franchise chain-based system and boost the number of outlets to 350 in Shanghai and neighboring areas by 2007.
Ahead of the country's end on the ban on foreign companies' franchise chain outlets, FamilyMart in May set up a joint venture in Shanghai with trading house Itochu Corp. and a Taiwanese food company, and started operations in July to prepare for the opening of its first franchise chain outlet in China.

FamilyMart will purchase the eggs from six contract farms in Japan where chickens are fed non-GM corn imported from the United States by Itochu Corp, a spokeswoman said.
The eggs will be sold under FamilyMart's brand name beginning on November 1 at 500 stores in central and northern Japan.
