English people - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The English people are an indigenous European ethnic group originating in the lowlands of Great Britain and today represent a fairly homogenous composite population descended from a combination of Anglo-Saxons and Celts with minor influences from Scandinavians, Jutes, and Normans.
The English as an ethnic group can trace their heritage back to the Anglo-Saxons (or Old English), who between the 5th and 7th centuries, after the withdrawal of the Roman Empire, came to occupy most of lowland Britain (although a lack of documentation from the Dark Ages means few individuals can prove such descent).
English common law is also the foundation of legal systems throughout the English speaking countries of the world, and the English Parliament had an influence on the operation of most democratic governments created after 1651 (partly through the incorporation of aspects of the English democratic system into the United States Constitution).

And even though people are trying to change the way we live i think we should have at least one day to say 'yes' we are English and we are proud of it.And after the events on the tube i think it would be a jolly good show of defiance.
People should be allowed to celebrate the day however they feel fit, it should be a celebration of all things English - democracy, freedom of speech and diversity being just a few.
Only allowing the English to celebrate who they are by observing other cultures that proudly proclaim themselves as being separate and not-English, is what's creating the barriers here, not the English defining who they are in their own ancestral homeland.

Because the funeral took place on 30 January, people in the United States marked Churchill's funeral by paying tribute to his friendship with Roosevelt because it was the anniversary of FDR's birth.
