Fantastic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Fantastic is sometimes known as the Grotesque, possibly because in the 19th century its practitioners wrote stories set in poverty, examined social problems, or featured strange personalities.
An example of a painter of the Fantastic is Marc Chagall, where one finds for example everyday elements of shtetl life defying a sense of gravity.
In Elizabethan slang, a Fantastic was a rake; an "effeminate fool" or "improvident young gallant".

Fantastic (magazine) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Begun in 1952 by editor Howard Browne and publishers Ziff Davis (Z-D) as an attempt at a sophisticated and handsome digest-sized magazine, Fantastic was initially a success, and became even more so by its third issue, which featured a story attributed to the enormously popular crime fiction writer Mickey Spillane.
Meanwhile, subsequent issues of Fantastic sold well enough for the pulp Fantastic Adventures to be merged with it in 1954; Amazing had already been reshaped to resemble Fantastic.
A revival of the title, a retitling of the magazine Pirate Writings by its new publishers in 2000, was a nostalgic nod to the magazine's importance to the field.

Ultimately, I decided that the name would stay until such time as it held the magazine back--that time came a year and half ago when ownership passed from Pirate Writings Publishing to DNA Publications.
We feel that the new name will provide more opportunities for the magazine to grow and become even more successful then it already is. In short, the new name is much more marketable in the mainstream than Pirate Writings.
Fantastic will publish cutting-edge Science Fiction and Fantasy--sadly, Mystery has been dropped from our repertoire, as have some of the other genre bending tales.

It’s good to see Activision taking the Fantastic Four license seriously and not tying it into the movie so tightly that a bad box office could undermine what might have been a good game, which is what happened to the Hulk game a couple of years ago.

The Fantastic Four are a family group--headed by a patriarchal figure (Reed Richards)—who eschew secret identities (a staple of super-hero strips in the 40s and 50s) in favour of a very public existence as guardians of their city, headquartered atop a mid-town skyscraper.
In their civilian identities (this excludes the Fantastic Four, whose identities are publicly known, with interesting consequences), they enjoy none of the prestige traditionally accorded the “elect”.
From the moment of their inception, in the 1930s, super-hero comics had been published serially, but it was only in the 1960s, at Marvel, that the texts began to reflect an awareness of this formal “seriality”.

Interzone - Review - A fantastic magazine in both senses of the word
The magazine’s current format is slightly smaller than A4 (it is also sold in America, where European A4 is disliked as it is apparently too large to sit on newsagent shelves), and the magazine runs to 68 pages with a full-colour front and back cover and greyscale interior.
The magazine is sold in certain newsagents (that is, in fact, where I picked up my first copy), but finding a particular newsagent that does sell it is not always easy since its distribution in that area is not as strong as it could be.
Interzone is also sold in some bookshops and specialist sci-fi stores, however the best bet is probably to take out a postal subscription, and this is one of the few magazines that I would actually recommend as worthy of such an investment.
