antastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an encyclopedic dictionary on the known magical creatures to inhabit the world.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them has extensive footnotes which provide an excellent insight on how these creatures behave with actual accounts of witch and wizard encounters and are an excellent source for those wishing to learn more about a particular creature.
There were a few diagrams, but I guess due to the fact that many Muggle readers might go and attempt to seek the creatures, efforts to protect the beasts led Scamander to leave out pictures.

They are two titles that appear in the novels - "Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them" is a book that Harry buys to go to Hogwarts so it's one of his school textbooks and "Quidditch Through The Ages" is a library title.
Not a very long time; I wrote them right after I'd finished Book 4, so compared to Book 4, which as you probably know is a very, very long book, they didn't take long at all.
So they've just scribbled things on them and said rude things in them, the name of their favourite Quidditch team and stuff in the book.

'The Book of Fabulous Beasts: A Treasury of Writings from Ancient Times to the Present' is another great reference work on this subject, including mythical beings from the familiar (unicorns and mermaids) to the wildly eccentric (green lions and winged snakes).
If you want a more modern interpretation of similar mythic material, read 'Lady of the Beasts : The Goddess and Her Sacred Animals', a fascinating study of animalistic supernatural creatures and gods worshipped in animal form; with tons of pictures it makes for a good coffee-table book.
On the dark side of things, we have the serious study 'Demonology: The Hierarchies of Hell', 'A Field Guide to Demons, Fairies, Fallen Angels and Other Subversive Spirits' (which is fairly whimsical and fun) and 'The Devil: A Visual Guide to the Demonic, Evil, Scurrilous, and Bad'.
