Fantastic 4 (2005 film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fantastic Four is a 2005 movie based on the Marvel Comics comic Fantastic Four, directed by Tim Story and released by 20th Century Fox.
In the end, the foursome decide to embrace their roles as superheroes and officially organize as the Fantastic Four with Reed proposing to Sue, and her accepting while Ben, with the help of Alicia, comes to terms with his condition.
The movie was criticized for weak storytelling and flat characters — especially the bland Doctor Doom, arguably one of the hallmark villains in the Marvel Comics world.

The plot of the movie follows that of the comic book (which is also the inspiration of the 2005 version): four friends are bombarded with cosmic rays during a scientific trip into space that causes them to develop superpowers.
Effects for the never-released Fantastic Four ranged from good (The Thing suit looked decent enough) to very bad (Johnny Storm has the ability to ignite his entire body in flame and fly, but he never does this until the end of the movie in an awful CGI shot used to close-out the story.) Mr.

But with “Fantastic Four” it seems they’ve gone with what seems to be the leftover template of a failed TV pilot to open the movie, and only ditches it halfway through, once action starts to take precedence over an awful lot of exposition — and the creative team have realized they’ve got to actually ‘try’.

Fantastic Four not only mocks its source material by making the classic mistake -- it interprets "comic book" to mean "comical" -- but it also makes a mockery of the books by completely failing to depict the super powers in a realistic manner.

In the movie, Reed's only flexibility comes from his arms and his ankles - and the effect is so amazingly laughable that you simply can't believe it.
Final analysis yields a painfully silly movie, one with more heroic intentions than actual assets, a slipshod and clumsy movie that's STILL a better flick than is either Captain America or The Punisher (and I believe I mentioned that THOSE dungheaps actually made it into the multiplexes for about a week each).

Since their first appearance in 1961, the 'Fantastic Four', conceived by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, have long been amongst the most popular Marvel Comics heroes - but their bizarre powers, especially the limb-stretching plasticity of the quartet's leader Reed Richards (aka Mr Fantastic), have made the cartoon series resistant to live-action treatment.
A 'Fantastic Four' production on a much larger scale was already being planned, with Christopher Columbus slated to direct, but in the meantime the studio that held the rights to the comicbook story needed to rush a dummy project through to retain its option on the material.
If 1994's 'Fantastic Four' was made (and then buried) merely to enable 2005's mutation to emerge, then similarly this current version seems merely to be a perfunctory 'origins' story designed to lay the ground for a franchise of sequels.
