Topic: Fantasy novels

Fantasy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fantasy is a genre of art, literature, film, television, and music that uses magic and other supernatural forms as a primary element of either plot, theme, setting, or all three.
In other cases, most frequently in works of modern fantasy in the high fantasy subgenre, the story might take place in a fantasy world that is wholly different from our own, complete with distinct laws of nature that permit magic.
Fantasy subgenres are numerous and diverse, frequently overlapping with other forms of speculative fiction in almost every medium in which they're produced.

Locus Online: Claude Lalumière picks the Best of 2003
2003 was a strong year for genre novels, both SF and fantasy, although, as in the past few years, superlative — and wildly diverse — fantasy novels upstaged the SF ones.
As far as I'm concerned, the fantasy event of the year is the debut of Ashok Banker's epic retelling of the classical Hindu text, The Ramayana.
Christopher Moore's novels are always thoroughly witty and entertaining, and his first foray into SF (all his previous novels have been fantasy) is a real winner.

Locus Online: Claude Lalumière: Best of 2004
In 2004, the 21st-century fantasy renaissance continued to blossom, with numerous excellent novels in many subgenres of the fantastic and with an abundance of outstanding debuts.
A good number of noteworthy nonfiction works related to the SF and fantasy field appeared, and excellent collections of short fiction — whether SF or fantasy, or a combination of both — were plentiful, released largely by specialty presses.
The language in both of these debut novels is enriched and enlivened by the prominent inclusion and adaptation of words and phrases from the non-Anglo backgrounds of their various protagonists.
