The Far North District of New Zealand, as its name suggests, is the northernmost district within New Zealand, consisting of the northern tip of the North Island.
The district includes the towns of Kaikohe and Kaitaia in the north, and the cluster of towns around and inland from the Bay of Islands (Kerikeri, Paihia, Russell, Opua, Kawakawa and Moerewa).
The district has 54,576 people (2001 census), of whom 44% are Māori.

The Far North has eight drinking water supply schemes across the district at Kaikohe, Kaitaia, Kawakawa, Kerikeri, Okaihau, Opononi, Paihia/Waitangi and Rawene.
Water is tested as it leaves the reservoirs at three to six various locations within the reticulated system depending on its size.

New Zealand's lead heritage protection agency, the New Zealand Historic Places Trust, has filed a prosecution against Far North Holdings Ltd for alleged destruction of archaeological sites at Waitangi.
The action relates to earthworks carried out by Far North Holdings - a local authority trading enterprise owned by Far North District Council - at a recorded archaeological site in April 2003.
Irrespective of the resource consent they had been granted, Far North Holdings omitted to obtain the necessary authority from the Historic Places Trust to destroy the archaeological site.

FNQ Swimming goes back to 1961 at which time Sir Thomas Covacevich became the first President.
Since then the Region has grown to 18 clubs and spans an area in Queensland from Tully in the South, to Weipa and Cooktown in the North.
Our clubs collectively have a membership of around 1300 swimmers ranging from Learn-to-Swim through 'B' Grade (Novice) kids and on to the more competitive 'A' Grade swimmers.
