Stay (Faraway, So Close!) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Stay (Faraway, So Close!)" is the third and final single from U2's 1993 album, Zooropa.
Since both song names were in the cover, the single was more like a double A-side release.
Bono has cited "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)" as one of his favorites and perhaps U2's most underrated song.

At the same time, Cassiel watches so intently that it is hard not to be uneasy.
In the last half-hour or so of the film, Wenders builds connections between Konrad, Hanna and Raissa, Baker, and a host of other characters Cassiel has met, including Peter Falk as himself, tying the whole package up in a whiz bang finale.

U2 Feedback - U2 Video Exploration: Stay (Faraway So Close!)*
This installment is dedicated to "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)" from “Zooropa.” This video stands out for me because unlike so many others from U2's catalog where the songs come first for me and the video is secondary, in this case it was the video that brought the song to my attention.
So much so that the song was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award as Best Original Song for Motion Picture from the film of the same name.
Another notable observation is that “Stay” seems to show the members of U2 in what could be considered their first acting role as angels observing humans on the bus, such as Edge playing with the tiny musical toy and listening to it with an expression of fascination, an action carried on throughout the video.

The postive side is reflected in "Wings of Desire" and represent love and growth and the negative side is reflected in "Faraway So Close" and signify loneliness and decay.
Although "Faraway So Close" sacrifices the originality that "Wings of Desire" offered us, it makes up for it by completing the human picture; for "Wings of Desire" and this film form a complete and compelling whole.
So, taking both films in account, they are about good reasons for an angel to become human beings: love by a special person or a irrestible necessity to protect the good feellings humans are still capable to heve.

DVD Booty - Faraway, So Close!
In searching for the transcendent, and for a spiritual explanation of its material certainties and flaws, there are people who choose to believe in angels, those unmaterial beings that watch over mortals perennially, shedding light and preventing souls from falling into darkness.
It is certainly a great story line, and one that touches many, but "Faraway so close" distants itself from the mere and plain interest of the obvious subject and dares to explore way deeper in the uncertain terrains of beliefs, sentiments, destiny versus will, friendship and the very essence of good and evil.
It is certainly not a mainstream sort of movie, yet in my opinion it delivers a strong message to everyone with a touch of spirituality and wanders about life, death, love, fate, will, good, evil and the essentials of our presence in this earth.

As the first film was centered on the angel Damiel (Bruno Ganz) becoming human to be with his love, circus performer Marion(Solveig Dommartin), this story revolves around the less intriguing story of Cassiel (Otto Sander), who questions his angel.
In 'Wings Of Desire' Bruno Ganz's transformation from angel to human could be seen as a desire by Berliners each side of the wall to overcome their imprisonment from each other.
In 'Faraway, So Close', the moral confusion that Otto Sander witnesses when he crashes down from above, mirrors the uneasy turmoil of the new united Berlin.
