The crash happened when a bus carrying a school party from Farkadona, a town 205 miles north of Athens, collided with a truck on one of Greece's busiest motorways.
But he told state television that the stretch of highway was one of the few that did not have protective barriers, and the truck may have been speeding when it apparently jackknifed into oncoming traffic and hit the bus.
Petros Hahopoulos, the headteacher of Farkadona high school, said three busloads of students had left the town at dawn to go to Athens to watch the final Paralympics events.

The goal of this activity is to propose new tools for the expression and for the personal and collective growth of a ghettoized community, attempting to envision a final model that could contribute to the social incorporation of the community in the society of Farkadona.

The organizing committee said that ticket holders were still free to attend the truncated ceremony, while those who preferred not to attend because of the changes would be reimbursed on display of their ticket via a procedure to be announced by Athens 2004 in the coming days.

Love Difference is taking part in the workshop on participatory devices “Emergency case situations: Farkadona case”, taking place from the 2nd to the 23rd June in the refugees camp in Farkadona (Larisa – Trikala District, Greece), where a community of Greek-Pontians repatriated from the former Soviet Union lives.
The workshop, organized by PPC_T (a Greek group of architects, teachers, artists, media experts) sees also the participation of Brazilian media activists working with free software, of the Gudran group from Egypt and of the Watercollection.net project.
During the past two years PPC_T started a participatory process of exploring ways for the rehabilitation and the incorporation of the community at the local society, economy and cultural life.

It was the second crash involving high school students in the past 18 months.
