	Scots Collie Breed Description
		White collies are expected to have some markings, generally on the head, of the sable, fl and tan or merle colors.
		Collies are intelligent and highly trainable dogs who tend to bond to their families and may take a while to make friends with strangers.

		Photo evidence from the 1800s and early 1900s indicates that the North American old farm collie was quite variable in type, probably showing the whole phenotypic range from Roman cattle dog type to herding Spitz type.
		The decline of the old farm collie land race apparently began with the rise of formal kennel club registries and the subsequent creation of the modern idea of pure breeds.

	Legacy of the Spitz: A Bibliography of the Collie
		The Collie in its current form is a descendant of the Farm Collie with a slight (and long-ago) admixture of Borzoi in the kennels of Queen Victoria of England to create a "more refined" head.
		While information on the Farm Collie may well be of interest to the Collie fancier, it is unlikely that information on the Borzoi will add much to the reader's understanding of the Collie.
