Farmersville, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 380 and State Highway 78 in east Collin County, was founded about 1849 by settlers who named the community after their principal occupation.
Both the First National Bank at Farmersville and the Farmersville Times, a weekly newspaper, were founded in 1885 and were still in operation in 1988, when First Bank was the oldest independent bank remaining in Collin County and one of the oldest in the state.
Farmersville began as a trading center for the farmers who were rapidly settling the area.

FARMERSVILLE – Police arrested a 20-year-old local man Wednesday night and charged him with capital murder in the abduction and slaying of a young mother taken from her home last week.
Moises Sandoval Mendoza of Farmersville was being held with bail set at $500,000 in the death of Rachelle O'Neil Tolleson, 20, whose burned body was found in a creek bed in far eastern Collin County on Tuesday.
Mendoza also was charged with a misdemeanor assault last April, accused of attacking a relative in Farmersville, but Collin County court records are unclear about the status of that case.

The Farmersville landfill proposal has gone through some changes since 1996, including an increase in capacity to 915,000 tons, then a decrease to about 600,000 tons, but the plan still includes up to 3,000 tons per year.

As I neared my old hometown of Farmersville Springs, I was greeted by the familiar sight of Day-Glo orange signs on the side of the road proclaiming, in succession: Logging Trucks Entering Highway; Mud On Road; Flagman Ahead; Thank You For Your Patience.
Sure enough, a logger with an orange flag halted me on the nearly deserted South Carolina asphalt to let a procession of tractor-trailers loaded high with bouncing loblolly pine logs continue on their way to the lumber mill in town.
