Farmington is a town located in Strafford County, New Hampshire.
Once the West Parish of Rochester known as Farmington Dock, the town's location on the Cochecho River was ideal for sawmills.
Farmington, incorporated in 1798, was also home to a prime shoe-making industry, and one of the first places to use automated shoe-making machines instead of handwork.

Farmington, pre-1700 was known as Chemung - gathering place of the canoes - but when aboriginal fishing was forcibly replaced by rapacious logging, the name changed to Puddledock.
And when the old timber was gone, it became Farmington, although with the poverty of the soil, the abundance of rocks and the harshness of the winters, Scrapealivington would have been a more apt name.
Farmington Corner has appeared on a semi-regular basis since 1984, at first in the Rochester Courier (died 1993) and since then in The Rochester and Dover Times.
