In the area within the inside border is the portrayal of an 1858 Minnesota scene made up of various illustrations that serve to depict a settler plowing the ground near the falls of St. Anthony while he watches an Indian on horseback riding in the distance.

Empire Township’s neighbors to the west and north – Farmington, Lakeville and Rosemount – are all growing rapidly.
That’s where the township is incredibly lucky: much of the land in the western and northern portions of the township is rich in aggregate resources, providing a natural – though temporary – barrier to development.
In fact, it was a dispute with Farmington and Lakeville over sewer capacity in the late 1990s that led to a major township planning study funded by the Metropolitan Council.

 Farmington Council approves annexation
A fair amount of the proposed parcels for annexation are on the east side of Highway 3, including properties whose owners have sought annexation, like the 158-acre Olson property, or that have expressed interest in annexation, like the 54-acre Braun property, according to an executive summary of the orderly annexation agreement.
Farmington used this method in September 2004 to acquire the former Empey property, located on the north side of 225th Street in Castle Rock.
As evidenced by the amicable relationship between city and township representatives at the council meeting, both government bodies worked closely to get the annexation agreement to where it is today.
