His father, Jorge Farragut, hailed from a seafaring family and emigrated to this country in 1776 from the island of Minorca, off the east coast of Spain.
Farragut then received news that Charles H. Davis, commander of the Western Flotilla, had finally captured Fort Pillow and Memphis and was now only 20 miles north of Vicksburg.
In 1866, Farragut became the first person in the history of the United States Navy to be awarded the rank of Admiral.

Farragut was born to Jorge and Elizabeth Farragut at Campbell's Station, near Knoxville, Tennessee, where his father was serving as a cavalry officer in the Tennessee militia.
According to legend, Farragut (who was lashed to the rigging of his flagship the USS Hartford) shouted down the order, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" The bulk of the fleet succeeded in entering the bay.
A statue of Farragut, crafted in 1881 from the propeller of his flagship, stands in Farragut Square in downtown Washington, D.C. The National Park Service interpretive plaque in the foreground prominently quotes his most famous line.

While I went about and did my thing, the ladies, after seeing the square, went across the street and went to Starbucks, not without first telling me where they were going.

When the system was first built, the sole rail yard was in Brentwood on the red line just inside of the Rhode Island Avenue Station.
To move trains from the rail yard to the blue/orange line, there is a segment of non-revenue track that runs from the red line, outbound between Metro Center and Farragut North Stations.
For whatever reason, they decided not to locate a revenue facility at the rail yard in Brentwood, which would seem to be a logical choice.
