  Farsley History
Farsley has always been a poor region until more recent times, but by 1848 there were 2876 persons here, and in 1885 the number had risen to 4434 and in 1981 there were around 10,000.
Bagley Lane at the north end of Farsley was a very industrialised area, being in the centre of a number of large mills, one of the largest of these being Springfield Mill(now Springfield Commercial Centre), which was originally built by Reuben Gaunt in 1864.
In earlier times Farsleys sanitary conditions left a lot to be desired and became a breeding ground for diseases and outbreaks of typhoid, cholera and scarlet fever which took their toll, especially of the children.
