Farsund is a coastal municipality, bordering on (additional info and facts about Kvinesdal) Kvinesdal municipality in the north and (additional info and facts about Lyngdal) Lyngdal in the north and east.
In terms of square mileage it is one of the smallest municipalities in (additional info and facts about Vest-Agder) Vest-Agder county, yet one of the largest in number of inhabitants.
In 1965 Farsund was merged with the former municipalities of Lista, Herad and Spind.

However, the Farsund’s master was taken on board and landed at Launceston.
In 1917-18, with tonnage scarce and at a considerable premium as a result of the First World War, the Farsund was sold to a Melbourne syndicate who apparently managed to float her off, only to have her go aground again.
This time she was stuck for good, although as recently as 1981 an American syndicate investigated the wreck for possible salvage and preservation.
