Henry IV issued farthings in both the "heavy" (pre 1412) and "light" (1412–13) coinages (20% lighter), although allowing for the prevalence of clipping it is quite difficult to distinguish between the two coinages at the size of the farthing.
The George IV farthing was produced in two types, between 1821 and 1823, 1825, and 1826 it weighed 4.5 – 4.8 grams, with a diameter of 22 millimetres, and from 1826–1830 it weighed 4.6 – 4.9 grams with a diameter of 22 millimetres.
Farthings weighing 2.7 – 2.9 grams and of 20 millimetres diameter (which was to remain the standard size of the coin for the remainder of its existence) were minted in all years of Edward VII's reign (1901–1910) except 1901.

'FARTHING (A.S.' feOrtha, fourth, +ing, diminutive), the smallest English coin, equal to the fourth of a penny.

The Story of the Farthing. A Brief History, by Chard
Farthings continued to be produced in small quantities for most monarchs up to Edward VI in about 1553, when the last silver farthing was produced.
From the first farthings of George VI in 1937 to the very last farthing of 1956 during the reign of Elizabeth II, the wren, Britain's smallest bird, continued to be used on the farthing, Britain's smallest and lowest valued coin.
Copper quarter farthings, incredible as it may seem to have needed coins worth 3840 to the pound, were produced from 1839 to 1853, but were almost exclusively reserved for use in Ceylon.

Fleur de Coin - A History of Bimetallic Coins
This coin was gradually debased and reached its lowest during the reign of Gallienus (253-68) when it was a copper coin with a thin silver coating which quickly wore off.
The later silver coins of Henry VIII of England were gradually debased until the last issue (1544-47) "silver" coins were struck from an alloy of one part silver and two parts copper (ie.333 fine).
These coins were made from a rod of copper with a wedge of brass that had been hammered into a groove that had been cut into the rod.

Shire Coinage, numismatic coins in silver an copper, at face value.   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-17)
As the 1401 farthings began to run low, we decided a new farthing coin was needed, and since the coin is small (about 10mm diameter and weighing about 0.6 gram) we tried an experiment to see if four farthings could be struck on a die with a single blow of the press.
Farthings have been struck in copper and brass, and special silver farthings equivalent to a penny have been made espcially for gifts and jewelry purposes as in charm bracelets and the like.
A large denomination coin was needed for the purposes of business transactions, and with the quarter-crown piece running short a new die for a half-crown coin struck in 1/4 troy ounce (8 grams) of gold was prepared, featuring a chestnut tree in full leaf alone on the obverse.

The coin was produced in 1827 exclusively for use in Malta, but it is considered to be part of the British coinage as at that time Malta was considered more as a part of Britain than in the twentieth century.
The Farthing coin was already in circulation in Malta, as a 3 grani coin, and the third farthing was introduced as 1 grano.

What is a Penny Farthing Bike?
A penny farthing bike is a 19th century invention that allowed people to get around cobblestone streets faster than walking and safer than its predecessor, the Boneshaker.
A penny farthing bike's name comes from the analogy of the large front wheel to a penny and the diminutive rear wheel to a farthing coin.
A penny farthing bike was measured in height, with models to compensate for children's stature, from around 30-60" (76-153 cm).
