		The Chief of Naval Staff profoundly thanking Admiral Fasih Bokhari said his able guidance and leadership provided a firm base to get on with the challenging task ahead.
		Admiral Fasih Bokhari, speaking on this occasion congratulated Admiral Mirza on his appointment as Chief of the Naval Staff and wished him and the Navy best of luck.
		Fasih Bokhari said the institutional strength of Pakistan Navy will endure for centuries.

		Whether Bokhari's resignation was the direct result of his supercession in the appointment of Gen Pervez Musharraf as Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee in addition to his being COAS Pakistan Army (another Court Circular a few days earlier), both appointments running concurrently till he retires in Oct 2001, is a matter of conjecture.
		As a younger Officer Adm. Fasih Bokhari had resigned earlier many years ago to pursue another career in the face of what he considered bleak prospects in the Navy for his future.
		My own opinion about Admiral Fasih Bokhari's resignation is that while he was not entirely comfortable in the new arrangement but circumstances forced him to go early and in this way give a fresh lease of life to the new incumbent, Aziz Mirza, who would have retired otherwise in December.
