Fastway (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fastway was a 1980s heavy metal band featuring guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke formerly of Motörhead, bassist Pete Way formerly of UFO, drummer Jerry Shirley formerly of Humble Pie, and vocalist Dave King.
The band was formed as a heavy metal supergroup of sorts and took their name from a combination of two of the band members' names.

Hair metal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
During its heyday the genre was generally referred to as heavy metal or simply metal; the fixation on the outrageous clothing and hairstyles of its most popular bands arose during the 1990s, after hair metal had been overshadowed by the simpler, back-to-basics appeal of grunge.
Countless bands relocated to Los Angeles to follow their example, and formed a colorful scene centering around the Sunset Strip.
Ironically, while many grunge and alternative music bands signed contracts with major record labels, many hair-metal bands, once considered proponents of “corporate rock,” signed with small, independent labels, and found niches; for example, CMC International released the music of Slaughter, Warrant, and others.

Despite hair metal's popularity at the time, many began to consider it unimportant or derisory, due to a common perception that the bands were more focused on their make-up, clothing (usually spandex), lyrics, and stage shows, than on their music.

Fastway - Trick or Treat: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Their heroes brandished a mic and attacked brutally with a six string, so a movie with a bit of gore, some satanic rituals and lots of head banging music was right up their alley, now fondly remembered as a campy classic.
Horrifying enough that the drums insist on being a little bit of an annoyance with their repetitive path, but the way King keeps belting the same five words til you just want to smash the song is insulting to the listener.
Too bad Fastway's one opportunity was squandered and the movie crashed due to not being the kind of ticket draw the studio had hoped.

Back in his '80s Fastway days that most CRR aficionados might know him best for, it was those wailing Janis Joplin-esque bluesy vocals that made him a distinct and refreshing aberration on the hard rock/heavy metal heyday of the time.

As many personnel changes as Fastway went through in the '80s and early '90s, it's no wonder that the band's work was as erratic and inconsistent as it was.
When Fastway recorded 1990s Bad Bad Girls for Enigma, the lineup included lead guitarist Fast Eddie Clarke, lead singer Lea Hart and -- it was alleged -- two ex-members of Girlschool: Kim McAuliffe and Chris Bonacci.
In the early '80s, Fastway showed some promise; on this 1990 release, it sounds like a band that has run out of gas.

One of the most promising '80s supergroups that never was, England's Fastway was never quite able to come to grips with their sonic identity, and despite a promising start, in the end their career was an almost absolute flameout.
With veteran drummer Jerry Shirley (ex-Humble Pie) and promising Irish newcomer vocalist Dave King rounding out their lineup, the resulting Fastway was awarded instant supergroup status, even though the mercurial Way decided to quit mere weeks after the release of their eponymous 1983 debut (going on to form the ill-fated Waysted).
As for Fastway, perhaps knowing he would never be able to match the intensity (and distortion) of his previous group, Clarke chose instead to seek a more mainstream hard rock direction with his new band, and indeed the album was very well-received in the U.S., climbing into the Top 40.

Though their earlier material was decidely hard rock and a shade poppy at times, they were unquestionably a prime influence on Loudness and the other Japanese bands that would emerge in the eighties, and guitarist Kyoji Yamamoto was quite an accomplished heavy rock guitarist.
The band broke up in the early nineties, but in 1995 Kyoji Yamamoto put together a new version of the band, now back as Bow Wow, and had recorded as late as 2002.
