 Osman Ali Khan, Asif Jah VII
Osman Ali was born in Hyderabad on April 5, 1886 at Purani Haveli in Hyderabad city, the second son of Mir Mahboob Ali Khan (Asaf Jah VI), Nizam of Hyderabad, by his first wife Amat-uz-Zahrunnisa Begum.
Their eldest son, Azam Jah, was married to Durru Shehvar, daughter of Abdul Mejid II the last Caliph and Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.
Osman Ali donated generously to many worthy institutions in India and abroad: recipients of his largesse included educational institutions such as the Jamia Nizamia, the Darul Uloom Deoband and the Banaras Hindu University.

In 1911 Mir Osman Ali Khan was proclaimed the Nizam by Nawab Shahab Jung, the Minister of police.In 1912 Maharaja sir Kishen Pershad resigned as the Prime Minister and in his place Nawab Yousuf Ali Khan Salar Jung III was appointed as the Prime Minister.

After a lot of political wrangling, when the irregular militia of the Nizam's prime minister (the Razakars) began terrorising trains passing through the Hyderabad state, India annexed Hyderabad state by a military liberation called Operation Polo under the rubric of a "Police Action." The Nizam was deposed though allowed to stay in Hyderabad.
Mir Osman Ali Khan, the last Nizam, died on Friday, February 24 1967.

The first Nizams ruled on behalf of the mughal emperors, but as their power waned with the death of Aurangazeb - the last great moghul - the nizams split away to form their own nizamates.
Asaf Jah, the founder of the dynasty, was a very able soldier and minister of the court of Aurangzeb, and was appointed governor of the Deccan in 1713.
This continued until the British who allowed the Nizams to rule their princely states.
