His eldest son, Azam Jah, was married to Durru Shehvar, daughter of Abdul Mejid II the last Caliph and Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.
After a lot of political wrangling, when the irregular militia of the Nizam's prime minister (the Razakars) began terrorising trains passing through the Hyderabad state, India annexed Hyderabad state by a military liberation called Operation Polo under the rubric of a "Police Action." The Nizam was deposed though allowed to stay in Hyderabad.
Mir Osman Ali Khan, the last Nizam, died on Friday, February 24, 1967.

The seniormost (21-gun) princely state in British India, Hyderabad was an 82,000 square mile (212,000 km²) region in the Deccan ruled by the Asif Jah dynasty of Muslim rulers, who had the title of Nizam and style of His Exalted Highness.
The present Nizam (the eighth), Nawwab Mir Barkat Ali Khan, Mukarram Jah Bahadur, currently lives in Turkey.

Though it is said that dynasty had only seven rulers however there was a period of 13 years after the rule of the Qamar-ud-din Khan, Asif Jah I when three of his sons Nasir Jung, Muzafar Jung and Salabath Jung ruled the dynasty.
