Psychrolutidae - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This poorly known family consists of bottom-dwelling marine sculpins shaped like tadpoles, with large heads and bodies that taper back into small, flat tails.
Although little research has been done yet on members of this family, they are considered quite interesting by ichthyologists.
The blob sculpin, Psychrolutes phrictus, for example, exhibits complex nesting behaviors complete with egg guarding.

 NDIS Fathead Minnow Wildlife Page
Habitat: Fathead minnows are tolerant of extremes in environmental conditions, able to withstand high temperatures, high nutrient concentrations, low dissolved oxygen levels, high turbidity and fairly stagnant conditions.
In perennial streams fatheads are found along undercut banks or backwater areas with little or no current.
Presently, the fathead minnow may be the most widely distributed fish in Colorado, being found in almost every drainage in the state.

Working up the cooler trout stream, the next section electroshocked yielded 51 yellow perch and 23 sculpins, with one or two examples each of white suckers, creek chubs, horny headed chubs, mud minnows, fathead minnows and fl bullheads.
Sculpins, the dominant or near-dominant baitfish in better Midwest trout waters, lack swim bladders and hence they are more or less confined to hunkering down on the stream bed.
Sculpin imitations are available commercially tied from a #10 hook size to a #2; nothing is stopping you from tying a larger one, however.

This study is examining the performance of slimy sculpin, white sucker and yellow perch in the upper Saint John River basin to develop a strategy for increasing the level of understanding of the system.
The home range of the slimy sculpin appears to be very small, and fish collected from the mouth or tributaries or from opposite banks of the river did not show overlapping responses.
Sculpin collected downstream of the pulp mill showed different responses than those collected downstream of the paper mill on the opposite river bank.
