The tree-line was the actual 'break' between the wooded unglaciated hills to the NE of the Mission Trail across Fayette County, and the tall/wet grass rolling prairie hills and sloughs to the SW of the trail.
The history of the Fayette County communities as a permanent settlement, like that of most local histories, begins not with a town but with farmers and farming, and perhaps a mill, (and the merchants/tradesman that follow and support the farming endeavor).
Tailor's name was not on the 1855 Fayette County tax record (apparently he had moved on, which was often the case with pioneer families, settle for a few years and move west hoping for better conditions,z).
