Fayette County Lake was constructed by the LCRA and the City of Austin a 2,400-acre cooling pond for the Fayette Power Project.
When the gates swung open at Fayette County Lake on September 5, 1979, some 120 boatloads of anglers were waiting in line to sample what, at the time, was thought to be the hottest ticket on the Texas bass-fishing scene.
Fayette County Lake has managed to survive for 25 years and well over 800,000 fishermen later by the sheer determination of the fishermen and the lake management team to preserve the lake and the opportunity to catch trophy-sized fl bass.

He was also county assessor, school director and county commissioner for several years and still higher political honors awaited him, for he was elected to the state senate to represent the counties of Fayette, Colorado and Lavaca in the twenty-fifth and twenty-sixth legislatures.
