The first tornado initially touchdown 8 miles northwest of Vandalia Illinois or one-half mile west of the intersection of county roads 400 E and 2200 N at approximately 500 PM CDT.
Further southeast, two swaths of damage from downburst winds were observed from the community of Vera and 2 miles south of Vera to near U.S. Much of the damage was due to fallen large tree limbs and large trees.
Additional scattered tree and limb damage was noted north, within and south of the town of Ramsey Illinois along U.S. 51 and in the town of Vandalia.

The strongest circulation noted with the center supercell was responsible for spawning the long-track tornado over the panhandle of Montgomery county Illinois.
One possible cause of the center storm becoming tornadic was due to outflow boundary interaction with the rear flank of this storm.
