		Fearn came to Geneseo in 1974 to serve as director of what was then known as the college's Equal Opportunity Program (EOP), which was initiated in 1968 to provide academically and economically disadvantaged minority and white students an opportunity to attend college.
		Fearn received his bachelor of arts degree in sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in 1970 and his master of science degree in educational administration from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1972.
		Fearn is survived by his wife, Betty Fearn, a counselor in Geneseo's AOP program; their adult children, Anthony Ivan Fearn and Cynthia Murray; and three grandchildren.

		By the early 1940s, Fearn had appeared in all of the leading magazines under his own name and numerous pseudonyms, creating a variety of plot-forms under different styles that ranged from universe-destroying thought variants to the intensely human stories.
		Fearn also became a very successful and prolific writer of Westerns, of which his “Merridrew” series is particularly noted.
		In 1950, Fearn was commissioned to write a long series of science fiction paperbacks for the British publisher Scion Ltd, under the contractual pen name of “Vargo Statten.” The very first novel ANNIHILATION (1950) became a best-seller and launched a new craze for science fiction in Britain.

		Fearn lived with his mother in Blackpool where he worked as a projectionist in a local cinema.
		Fearn's most famous series was The Golden Amazon which expanded from four novelettes into 26 novels (24 published), promoting a feminine heroine.

		Fearn Abbey is found on the fertile low-lying ground just east of the Hill of Fearn and two miles north west of the coastal village of Balintore.
		The difference between the internal and external appearance is because in 1790 a stone "skin" was wrapped around the outside of the aisle, presumably to keep it standing: it's a shame it wasn't done in a style more in keeping with the church itself.

	Fearn Abbey
		Various reasons were given for the move, but it was probable that the Canons were interested in agriculture and that the lands around Fearn were more fertile, and also because it was still within 5 miles of St. Duthac's chapel in Tain.
		In 1336, the Abbey was of rough stone and it was suggested by William, Earl of Ross, that it should be rebuilt.
		Patrick Hamilton, the first martyr of the Reformation in Scotland was commendatory Abbot of Fearn from 1517-1528, although there is no evidence that he actually resided in the area.
