The funny thing was that the new ordinance, despite being researched by the corporation counsel to match other successful ordinances elsewhere, was deemed unenforceable by the District Attorney, and the bookstore was never prosecuted, and quietly went out of business within the year.
That town is only 10 miles from here and my friend's band plays at a bar there occasionally.

New Mexico is one of 10 states whose residents would have to carry some other proof of identity to board airplanes or enter a federal courthouse because the state issues driver’s licenses without requiring proof of U.S. citizenship.
Instead of January 28th as I was told, the installation is February 9th and 10th.

Four Republican senators who blocked legislation to renew the USA Patriot Act last year over what they said was a lack of protection for civil liberties announced February 9 that they had reached an agreement with the White House on a revised bill.
While working out a compromise bill, Congress extended the Patriot Act, 16 provisions of which had been set to expire at the end of 2005, until March 10 through two short-term extensions.
Also under the proposal, national security letters could no longer be used to obtain records from libraries that function in their traditional capacity, including providing basic internet access, but they could be used to get records from libraries that serve as internet service providers, according to the February 10 Washington Post.
