The International Olympic Committee, the International Federations and the National Olympic Committees, the three Olympic Pillars, and all other groups with similar interests, are called to collaborate toward the development of sport and the spreading of the values conveyed by the fundamental principles of the Olympic Spirit.
These programmes cover areas that are essential to the development of sport, with precisely defined objectives: to heighten athlete competitiveness, to increase feed-back in the aim of improving the general framework of sport, to professionalize NOC management and to further the Olympic Spirit throughout the world by stimulating social development through sport.
Education is an essential part of this mission, as it is for the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique.

The Federation Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) was formed on 23 July 1881 when representatives of the Gymnastics association of Belgium, France and the Netherlands met in Liege.
As a governing body it is held in high esteem by both its member federations and gymnastics clubs throughout five continents.
However, when the USA was admitted in 1921, the Committee changed its name to the Federation Internationale de Gymnastique or FIG, as it is known today.

A, B, C, D, E, After the merger of the I.F.S.A. within the F.I.G., no national sports acrobatics federation is required to merge into its national gymnastics federation but only the FIG-recognised gymnastics federations will have nomination and voting rights in the FIG Congresses.
You will find here some sports acrobatics federations, gymnastics federations that were affiliated to the I.F.S.A. and other ones which have merged with a sports acrobatics federation or which began after january 1st., 1999 to develop sports acrobatics in their country.

After an e-mail vote among its members the International Racketlon Federation hereby announce that their official acronym is changed from the previous "IRF" to "FIR".
And the natural choice for a French name was "Fédération Internationale de Racketlon", which gave the acronym FIR which, in turn, was unique in the AGFIS context.
The idea to turn to the French language might seem somewhat far-fetched but is, in fact, a fairly standard pattern among international federations, due to the traditionally prominent position of the French language within international affairs.
