It produces Fedora Core and is officially sponsored by Red Hat, which has many employees working on the project's code.

Fedora comes with a ton of software but there are still plenty of packages of interest to most users that are not included for a variety of reasons.
IMHO that is where Fedora, or the Linux community at large, will need to make the most progress in order to capture a larger audience/user base.
Also, I wish there were a Fedora (or Linux) configuration analyzer which could "draw a picture" of the installed components, libraries, repositories, and/or whatnot in order to help us (novices) "see" what is wrong with our setups.

And yes Fedora is a good choice for a beginner, It is easy wth out being too hand holding, you still need to dig a little to get all the bells and whistles to work.

Sure, there are some pages on linux games, the desktop,publishing and multimedia and such that I consider a bit obvious, but they still cater for the total newbie I guess.
Second: "Linux isn't 'there' yet for the desktop." It is. But if you want a Linux only network, you need to work for it (training, support, commitment, Linux friendly hardware, etc).

Although there were many seemingly authoritative web pages listed on Linux on Laptops and TuxMobil discussing just this topic, my impression was I lacked the level of technical competence required to follow these instructions and avoid damaging my laptop.
(For example, I was concerned the Linux distribution I chose might not be able to control the laptop's fan properly, resulting in its CPU overheating.) In publishing these notes, my intention is to allay the fears of others considering installing Linux on their laptops.
When it came to setting up wireless, I had three options: (i) a closed source kernel module from Linuxant that can load Ndis (Windows network driver API) drivers, (ii) an open source kernel module called ndiswrapper that does something similar, and (iii) an open source Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 driver for Linux.
