  FEEDERLINER
A Feederliner is a small short-range airliner that is intended to fly passengers from smaller airports to larger ones, thereby "feeding" the larger hubs with passengers.
Feederliners are typically flown by the regional airline offshoots of the larger international airlines.
The latest generation of feederliners are jet designs, a market that was created with the Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ) (CL_600) in the early 1990s and quickly started replacing almost all other designs.

Airplane Pictures. Selection of ten airplane pictures.
The Handley Page HP.137 Jetstream was a small twin turboprop airliner, with a pressurised fuselage, designed to meet the requirements of the United States feederliner and regional airline market(see airplane pictures).
The Fokker F100 is a small twin-engine regional jet airliner and feederliner from the Fokker company (see airplane pictures).
Low operational costs and almost no modern competition in the 100-seat short-range class made it a best seller when it was introduced in the late 1980s, but improved models of the Boeing 737 and Airbus A319 and 318 squeezed it into a niche and Fokker was soon insolvent.

  Feederliner Information
A feederliner, or regional airliner, is a small-to-mid-sized airliner used to "feed" passengers from smaller cities into major regional hubs.
The same aircraft are also used in the specialty airline market as well; there are few aircraft designed specifically to be a feederliner, but are typically multi-role, serving the commuter airline, regional airline and feederliner market.
Soon they were being used in the feederliner role, although not as economical as the turboprop, they could fill both this role and the medium-range airliner role, and were generally better liked by the passengers.

  Avro 748
The Avro 748 was a small short-range turboprop airliner designed by Avro in the late 1950s as a replacement for the now-aged DC-3's then in widespread service as feederliners.
Avro concentrated on performance, notably for STOL operations, and found a dedicated market and was eventually produced to 380 examples, second only to the Vickers Viscount.
The Viscount had the large end of the short-haul market neatly wrapped up, so Avro decided to design to a smaller feederliner design to replace the many DC-3's that were now reaching the end of their lifespan.

 Find Aircraft Jet Small
Regional jet A regional jet (RJ) is a small short-range jet aircraft that is intended to fly passengers from smaller airports to larger ones, thereby "feeding" the larger hubs with passengers.
The aircraft are so inexpensive to operate that they are increasingly being used for direct airport-to-airport flights, bypassing the whole hub-and-spoke design entirely, and causing a minor revolution in airline operations.
The first widely successful jet feederliner design was the Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ) (CL 600) in the early days of the major carriers.

Microsoft finally got the flight model right in FS2004 and in FSX it handles just as well, so this king of bizjets is likely to retain its popularity.
The CRJ is a very welcome addition to Flight Simulator - the real thing being a feederliner based on the Canadair Challenger, a corporate jet design by none other than Bill Lear.
Originally known as the LearStar 600, the design was purchased by Canadair and almost ran onto the rocks when one of the prototypes crashed after finding its way into a deep stall.

The twin-engined Yak-25 interceptor was brought out in 1952, again becoming the first in a line of twinjet tactical aircraft — mostly bombers and reconnaissance aircraft.
Civil aircraft development also continued on a large scale, the OKB developing such successful aircraft as the Yak-18 trainder/aerobatic aircraft family, the Yak-40 feederliner (1966) and the Yak-42 short/medium-haul airliner (1974).
The company even tried its hand at helicopters; the tandem-rotor Yak —24 was brought out in 1952, entering small-scale production in 1955.

* In the early 1960s, the de Havilland aircraft company of Britain was working on the design of a small, twin turboprop, high-wing feederliner designated the "DH.123".
De Havilland was then absorbed into the Hawker Siddeley Aviation company, with the concept mutating to a low-wing aircraft with twin turbofans mounted on the rear fuselage, designated the "HS.144".

The ability to fit the aircraft with wheels (fixed tricycle), floats, skis or as an amphibian, combined with STOL capabilities and a phenomenal climb-rate, means there is nowhere a Twin Otter can't go.

However these aircraft were generally fairly small and served outlying routes, as opposed to the main feederliner routes which were already well served by larger, higher-performance aircraft such as the Handley Page Jetstream and Fokker F27.
In comparison to other feederliners, the Dash 7's four engines required twice the maintenance of a twin-engine model, thereby driving up operational costs.
Finally, those airports that did require a high performance STOL operation were generally small and well served by the Twin Otters; had the airport needed a larger plane to serve its customer base, they would have built larger runways.

The Dove was developed in response to a requirement for a small feederliner for UK and Commonwealth domestic services.
The resulting aircraft featured new versions of the Gipsy Queen engine, a raised flightdeck and separate passenger cabin and all metal construction.

AVSIM Online - Flight Simulation's Number 1 Site!
The DeHavilland Dash 8 was originally developed by DeHavilland Canada (DHC) in the early 1980’s as an adaptation of the Dash 7 regional airliner.
The Dash 7, which was released in the mid 1970’s, had received only moderate success as a STOL (short takeoff and landing) four engine turboprop regional airliner (or feederliner) with a max of 40 seats, usually 32.
These new engines were mounted to a very high aspect ratio wing giving the Dash 8 a considerably higher cruise speed and on a much lower fuel burn than the Dash 7’s four engines but more importantly, the Dash 8 had considerably lower overall operating costs.
