Foot (unit of length) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A foot (plural: feet; symbol or abbreviation: ft or, sometimes, ′ – a prime) is a unit of length, in a number of different systems, including English units, Imperial units, and United States customary units.
In 1958 the United States and countries of the Commonwealth of Nations defined the length of the international yard to be 0.9144 metres.
There are 6076 feet in a nautical mile, which is approximately one minute of arc on the Earth's surface.

Unit, as defined by the dictionary, is "a determined quantity adopted as a standard of measurement.
When one use a unit to measure with the sole purpose of measuring, any unit may be adopted as a standard, as long as one is familiar with the standard and has a way to reference to the standard.
Therefore, any unit system using feet should be replaced with systems such as the metric system, which as least provides some convenience for having a consistent scaling factor, because using a unit system that employs feet as a unit to take measurements is simply as ridiculous as the performance.

Unit Converter - Adding New Units
The two primary conversion units for Length are Feet and Meters, and all units in the Length measurement class have a conversion factor to either Feet or Meters.
Second, it gives the user the ability to add a measurement unit to a measurement class, enter a single conversion factor for that unit, and then be able to convert from that unit to all other units in that class.
For example, if a user wanted a unit called a “half-meter”, then they could enter in a conversion factor for Half-meter to convert it to an appropriate primary conversion unit (Meter), and then they would be able to convert Half-meters to and from all 77 other length units.

 Introduction
A unit factor can be constructed from any equality (or any two terms that describe the same thing or equivalent amounts of the same thing.) 1 foot is equal to 12 inches by definition; 1 ft. = 12 in.
The number 12 must have a unit part to indicate what there are twelve of ……12 people or eggs or rabbits, etc. If the unit one starts with is not helpful in solving the given problem, the unit factor method may be used to change that unit without altering the quantity.
The answer is the same area quantity, expressed with a unit that is useful and appropriate to the problem.
