  Fedmahn Kassad
Kassad was a colonel in the Hegemony of Man's FORCE military, of Palestinian descent.
Kassad was determined to meet and destroy both the Shrike, and its keeper, Moneta on Hyperion.
It is later revealed that Kassad himself was part of the animating spirit of the Shrike, a fact made possible by the passage of the Time Tombs backwards in time.

Still, if you're a lone wacko who likes to kill for the thrill, I don't see the wrong in hit-and-fade tactics, specially if he can't hold his own in honest combat (as in, his victim turning to fight instead of running.
Im confused, I really cannot swallow that smittens went to dau to kill n00bs while they killed oruns, but this thread has made me think, who the hell is Fehdman again.
And like I said on 100 last night, I'd have to be pretty talented to be blasting n00bs while shooting Serco, and anyone who cares to pay attention would be able to see how often we've been on at the same time.

Fehdman Kassad is a character in the Hyperion books by Dan Simmons, which Zack and Ash frequently recommend.
Oh, and, of course, Capt. Metis' first name was Fehdman (trying to remember if this made the screen, or we only knew from advance teasers).
Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, maybe Ashley's "double entendre" involves the fact that Metis, the titan, was a child of Hyperion, the titan...

When I didn't find that, I created the node with the best information I had.
I found out a few months later that somebody had gone and essentially concatenated all the individual nodes I had made for characters in the book, like Fehdman Kassad, and Hyperion (planet), and condensed them all into the rather convenient place of [[Hyperion Cantos]].
And lo, all the information required for understanding the series, all four books (five?), was there, in one page.

No, it wasn't me. As some people will recall, I engaged Fehdman multiple times.
Fehdman Kassad was *played* by the same player who played Sun Tzu.

I can’t wait to see how you breathe life into Captain Fehdman Metis, melancholy commander of the Bellerophon, and thanks for reminding me that amidst all of the b.s.
And "Metis" is French for "mixed" -- it's used in Canada to refer to the ethnic group which is a blend of Native and French-colonial ancestry (corresponding to "mestizos" in Latin America).
It's a reference to Fehdman Kassad from Dan Simmons' "Hyperion" series.

EDIt-Sidewaysvision, I think he meant how SB would fare against his OP team, not against Kassad.
And unless you're sending naked Kassad out there, he's got a shot of winning; Kassad with a Phase Suit and weaponry is just that damn deadly.
He wrote Hyperion and created the character of Col. Fehdman Kassad, who is not only the most badass soldier in the entire existence of humanity in that universe, but also a Palestinian.
