The feint is too stiff to be a real attack, the student's arm finishes extending too soon, and the point of the student's  weapon stops moving at the end of the feint.
Feints in épée have some of the same dangers as those with saber, though the épée fencer has the protection of the bell, and the physics of hitting a smaller target like the hand/arm with a point weapon in their favor.
Feints in épée will also draw a mix of reactions, since the épée fencer is not bound by convention to parry the feint, but may respond with an attempt to stop, or an attack of their own.

The feint is an effective technique when you posses a small force, must maintain economy of forces, and are facing a larger force.
Initially the unit is organized into two elements, the feint element and the attack element.
During the early maneuver phase the feint element remains out of sight while the attack element moves to a position to either the flank of the enemy.

Feint is the rogue's quickest method of lowering threat on a target.
At lower levels, Feint may be dismissed as a useless ability due to the negligible amount of threat removed.
An alternative to using feint in raids during longer boss fights is to wait until the boss is down to ~60/70% health, and then vanish to completely dump your current threat.

Feint, so named because it is a “diversionary night,” is the four-month old brainchild of Matt Kane, 23, a DC-based photographer and artist and Michael Eichler, 29, an imminent grad student.
Feint will remind those who bemoan the homogeneity of queer DC -- you know, the same pop/dance hits played in clubs of varying quality -- that it is possible to enjoy good libations, good conversation, and superb music without having to sacrifice the queer quotient.
Feint is, in some ways, a small reminder of the spunk and verve the gay community seems to have lost — namely the desire, and appreciation, of individuality.

Feinting is a way to mislead your opponent into making a wrong decision, then hitting them while they are off balance.
Feinting is a nasty combo when combined with a rogue's sneak attack ability, because if she succeeds at feinting, her opponent is denied his Dexterity bonus to his AC, thus opening the door for additional damage via sneak attack.
Although attempting a feint against a high-level rogue or bard is difficult (since they have relatively high base attack bonuses and also have Sense Motive as a class skill), a successful feint denies them one of their most treasured things: their Dexterity bonus.

It goes without saying that Feint should be in almost every "high hack" deck (which feature six each of all three upper attacks combined with head shots and power blows).

Feint is better but also more expensive (since it requires two feats to actually be able to use it).
One other thing to remember with Feint is that sacrificing extra attacks usually isn't that big a deal to low and medium BAB characters...since the accuracy on those extra attacks is pretty poor anyways.

Black Industries Forum - = Feint and Folly =
Most of the time the PC would use the WS as is, feint is pretty tricky to pull off until later, and folly attacks are the result of loosing ones temper.
After all, some opponents are just not going to fall for a feint (and others aren't even going to bother blocking an attack whether a perceived feint or not), so there should be some kind of mechanic to allow for the opponent not to take any loss to their WS in defence.
The reduction in the combatant’s WS who is performing the feint takes into account that it is quite difficult to get a convincing feint in the first place.

Feint: You know how to draw out your opponent and slip past their defenses.
It also decreases the dramatic effect, making Feints or Beats something you would use over and over again, when in real fencing taking a feint or beat can open you up for an attack, which means you make a concious effort to use the technique at a certain point in time to gain an advantage.
