  Associazione Musicale Felice Romani
A celebration of Felice Romani on the bicentenary of his birth.
This volume was presented in 1996 at the Eugenio Montale Auditorium in the Carlo Felice Theatre in Genoa and was followed by a concert of lyrical chamber music and extracts from operas.
With material from the archives of the Study Centre, the Association participated in the echibition "Documenti d'arte e storia" promoted by the Municipality of Moneglia which was held in the palazzo Ducale in Genoa as part of the 2004 event "Genoa:European Culture Capital".

 Definition of Felice Romani
Felice Romani (1788 - 1865) was an Italian poet and scholar of literature and mythology who wrote many librettos for the opera composers Donizetti and Bellini.
Born in Genoa, Romani went to study in Pisa where he said to have "studied law to please his family and literature to please himself." He later joined the faculty of the University of Genoa and, while there, translated French literature.
Romani's expertise in French and antiquity is reflected in the libretti he wrote; the majority are based on French literature and many, such as Norma, use mythological sources.

 Baltimore Opera Company
Felice Romani, the most popular and celebrated opera librettist of the first half of the 19 th century, was born into impecunious means in Genoa on January 31, 1788.
Given to poor health, his mother doted on him to such a degree that he became rather vain in the Beau Brummel mode, and rather difficult in the Napoleon mode, attributes that were the despair of the many composers with whom he would collaborate in his relatively long life.
Romani's libretti are known for their dramatic tautness and classical restraint, particularly when compared with other writing styles of the time that were efflorescent with floridness.

 Roccatagliati, Felice Romani librettista
A study on the relationship between literary and musical organization in the Libretti for opera, and mutual understanding between composers and librettists.
The first part of the volume with ample documenation reconstructs Felice Romani's carreer, "librettist by profession", a man of letters with a contradictory relation with the contemorary milanese culture.
Particular attention is placed on the origin and morphology of Romani's Libretti.

OPERA America — The National Service Organization for Opera
Romani was one of the leading librettists of the day, beginning his career writing for Giovanni Simone Mayr (a total of six texts, beginning in 1813 with L a rosa bianca e la rosa rossa) and Rossini [ Aureliano in palmira (1813) and Il turco in Italia (1814)].
In his maturity, Romani became house librettist at La Scala, one of the main nerve centers for 19 th -century Italian opera.
Romani and Donizetti add a touch of pathos, succumbing to the trend for Werther-esque tears cast over troubled desire, espoused so perfectly by Nemorino's "Una furtiva lagrima," a selection not found in Le philtre but demanded by the composer, to the objection of his librettist.

Felice Romani was born in 1788 in Moneglia, Italy.
Romani was infamous for working on several projects at once; his refusal to put his name on bad material meant that he usually worked behind schedule.
Composers, who in Romani's day were under great pressure to work quickly, found this trait both frustrating and nerve-wracking, but still clamored to use his texts.

Choruses of villagers chirp merrily away, comic characters chug through patter songs, and aria after limpid aria floats above the graceful orchestration—all with melodies that wedge themselves indelibly into your brain.
But start reading Felice Romani’s libretto and you’ll remember why opera is so often written off as the flakiest and most irrelevant of the musical arts.
The story, which is not outlandish so much as numbingly predictable—it’s pretty much the commedia dell’arte Everyplot—plays like an extended Hee Haw sketch: Village idiot Nemorino has a crush on farm-belt bitch goddess Adina.

 Felice Romani Totally Explained
As a rule, Romani didn't create his own stories; he kept up with what was happening in the Paris theatre and adapted plays which were popular there, but this wasn't always a safe strategy, given the vague intellectual property rights legislation of the time.
Romani was considered an ideal match for Bellini, who is quoted as having said: "Give me good verses and I'll give you good music".

Alina, regina di Golconda at AllExperts
Alina, regina di Golconda (Alina, Queen of Golconda) is an opera in two acts by Gaetano Donizetti.
The Italian libretto was written by Felice Romani after Michel-Jean Sedaine's French libretto for Pierre-Alexandre Monsigny's ballet-heroique Aline, reine de Golconde (Paris Opera, 1766), in its turn based on the novel by Stanislas de Boufflers.
The opera was commissioned for the opening festivities of the Teatro Carlo Felice, Genoa, where it premiered with success on May 12, 1828.
