Dame Felicity Lott DBE (born May 8, 1947) is an English soprano universally known as Flott.
Felicity Lott has also appeared in operettas, singing the title role in Franz Lehár's The Merry Widow at Glyndebourne, as well as Rosalinde in Fledermaus and the title roles in Offenbach's La belle Hélène and La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein.
Felicity Lott has received many honorary degrees and been elected to the French Legion of Honor and made a DBE in 1996.

The English soprano, Felicity Lott, was educated in Cheltenham, and studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
As a concert artist, Felicity Lott sings with all the major orchestras and festivals throughout the country, and appears regularly at the BBC Promenade Concerts.
These successes are mirrored in Felicity Lott’s wide range of major recordings under such conductors as Georg Solti, Haitink, Janssons, Neville Marriner, Mackerras and Jarvi and her love of the song repertoire is reflected in her extensive recordings of Wolf, Schubert, Schumann, Strauss and the masters of French mélodies.

It is an opera-singer-studded evening including performances by Lott, Frederica von Stade, Montserrat Caballé, Benjamin Luxon, Kim Begley and Ruggero Raimondi – and brief reminiscences by such stars of the past as Dame Janet Baker, Geraint Evans, and Elisabeth Soederstrom, all of whom appeared at Glyndebourne in the early days of their careers.
Dame Felicity Lott started learning the piano aged five and had her first singing lesson at the age of 12, but when it came time to go on to University she opted to read Latin and French at Royal Holloway College, London University, hoping to become an interpreter.
In 1990 Felicity Lott was also made a CBE, and in 1996 she was created a Dame Commander of the British Empire.

Evidently Felicity Lott's name is its strongest selling point, but her singing is only a small part of what is offered.
Lott is absent from most of the disc, which is taken up with two of the 19th century's finest works for chamber orchestra: Wagner's Siegfried-Idyll, probably the most endearing of his compositions, and the relaxed, warmly lyrical Serenade No. 1 of Johannes Brahms.

For her January 26 Great Performers appearance, Dame Felicity Lott performs "Night and Day: Love Songs Around the Clock," a recital as simple and straightforward as its title implies: It's a program of two dozen songs moving through a day from dawn to dusk, ending with the eponymous Cole Porter classic.
Lott says that, although it just fell into place that way, it was quite fortuitous: "Suddenly, if you had two by the same composer, it didn't work out as well.
Lott does admit to initially wondering if she could pull this off onstage, since, its theatrical conceit aside, "Night and Day" is no staged musical theater event, but rather a theme recital.

It is, perhaps, a mark of the respect and affection with which Felicity Lott is held in France, that for their latest production the Châtelet Theatre, Paris, have assembled around her a Francophone cast.
The role of the Grand Duchess is not one that we might associate with Felicity Lott; it was in fact written for a mezzo-soprano.
Lott relished the comic opportunities that the role gives, but she had more to do than in a traditional production as the opera was performed in a new edition which reopens the cuts Offenbach made after the opening night.

Repertoire-wise there's a bit of everything, classical to Broadway, with the balance skewed in the general direction of the latter.
Skewed too much, perhaps: Lott may be admired for her showmanship, but it's the quality of her soprano that has been a greater asset throughout her career.
