Indians come regularly to the dusty Mexican town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto on the southern Yucatan peninsula to worship at a flower-adorned shrine to the Speaking Cross that helped their ancestors resist oppressive masters descended from European settlers for half a century.
Residents of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, about 185 miles south of Cancun, say the cross was lost then rediscovered a few years ago, some 150 years after their fleeing ancestors left it in a sinkhole here in the sweltering tropical forest of Quintana Roo state, southeastern Mexico.

If you’re coming south on 307, the turn is about 67 kilometers from the gas station in the center of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, at kilometer 65.
(There are now two gas stations in Carrillo Puerto: a new one north of town, and the older one in the center.) If you’re driving north on 307, there's a yellow and red Superior beer distributor building on the corner which you should be able to see easily in daylight.
There is a pole on the left of the road with several signs (if you miss that turn you'll only drive for about ten seconds before that road ends, so you won't have wasted much time before you turn around).

At Xcaret it becomes a ‘three’lane highway.(If you’re driving slower, please pull over to part of the shoulder, thus allowing the vehicle be hind you to pass without crashing into the oncoming traffic hence the "three" lanes.)
Through the town of Tulum it is a divided blvd. From Tulum to Felipe Carrillo Puerto, it is a single lane narrow highway with dense jungle vegetation on both sides, extremely hypnotizing in the day and extremely DANGEROUS at night..
Gas station and an ATM are here on the main road in the main part of town.
