  Felix Morrow (by L. Proyect)
It is an analysis of the political fight between Felix Morrow on one side and the leaders of the Fourth International on the other.
During the 1940s, he and other of the leaders of the SWP were imprisoned under the terms of the Smith Act for their vocal opposition to World War 2 as an imperialist war.
This ultraleftism stared Felix Morrow in the face, who like a small boy declaring that the emperor has no clothes, ventured to state that American imperialism might not have been on its last legs in 1945.

 Joseph Farrell per Alan Wald
Goldman and Morrow's strongest argument challenged Trotsky's somewhat catastrophic perspective that World War II would be followed by a wave of socialist revolutions in the major countries of westem Europe, with Stalinism in the Soviet Union quickly eradicated either by an internal political revolution or an externally imposed capitalist restoration.
Yet the question remains as to whether Goldman and Morrow's predictions were actually based on a superior insight into the nature of the epoch; it is also possible that, in the process of losing their revolutionary convictions, they were merely projecting the existing, pessimistic situation of the mid-1940s into the future.
Morrow was expelled from the Socialist Workers Party at its November 1946 convention on the grounds of engaging in unauthorized meetings with Shachtman, but by then he had become so discouraged that he never followed through on his commitment to join the Workers Party.

Kennaston could find in the past--even he, who was priv ileged to view the past in its actuality, rather than through the distorting media of books and national pride--no suggestion as to what, if anything, he was expected to do while his physical life lasted, or to what, if anything, this life was a prelude.
And Felix Kennaston had achieved his desire, to every intent, however unapt might be posterity to bracket him with Casanova or Don Juan, and however many tourists still went with reverence to Stratford rather than Alcluid.
Felix Kennsaton reflected that, through accident's signal favor, he had done all he had at any time very ernestly wanted to do; and that the result was always disappointing, and not as it was depicted in story-books....

Felix is one of the most unlovely characters in Scripture, and all that we know of him outside of Scripture simply deepens our distaste for him.
We fill in the picture of to-morrow with blessings to be enjoyed, ideals to be attained, until the upshot may be that we draw the thought of our people away from what they have to-day to what they may have tomorrow.
Yesterday is gone, and to-morrow is not yet here; and procrastination is a deadly habit of blinding one's eyes to the opportunities and privileges we have in our hands and dreaming of something that some time we may have.

The Militant - May 27, 2002 -- How the fascists came to power in Spain in the 1930s
This is one of Pathfinder’s Books of the Month for May. Morrow’s account was written as events themselves unfolded in the Spanish civil war in the 1930s.
The central theme of Morrow’s book is the futility of attempting to defeat Gen. Francisco Franco’s attack on the Spanish Republic through a People’s Front coalition with the bourgeoisie--the strategy followed by both the Stalinists and Socialists after September 1935.
Morrow’s other major theme is the role a revolutionary party could have played had one been created in time to defend the revolutionary aspirations of the workers and peasants against these betrayals.

He estimates that “these masses may well have to go through a certain body of experiences before they will understand that their needs cannot be satisfied within the framework of the democratic republic.” No doubt this is true, although the experience may be gained in a concentrated form and within a brief period.
Comrade Morrow also concluded from Italian experiences so far that “the traditional workers’ parties, as well as centrist and liberal-democratic parties, will emerge throughout Europe as the principal parties of the first period after collapse of the Nazis and their collaborators.” This is already the case in a number of European countries.
The position of the SWP minority was stated by Felix Morrow in the May 1945 Fourth International.

Ironically, Trotskyists like Felix Morrow argued in Spain that "the simple, concrete slogan of elected soldiers' committees was the only road for securing proletarian control of the army." Clearly, Trotsky abolished proletarian control of the Red Army in favour of bureaucratic control.
