Felixstowe is twinned with the German towns Wesel and Salzwedel.

A campaign to save a disused Victorian railway station in Felixstowe ended in failure on Easter Sunday.
It fuelled Felixstowe's development, helping swell the town's population from 894 in 1881 to 3,500 10 years later as its popularity as a resort and a spa grew.
The station, which opened in 1877, was one of the first beach stations in the country.

On this occasion the station adjacent to the locomotive shed was in use, in lieu of that at the lower level.
A notice on the station building at the Mewsbrook Park end stated this was due to the serious illness of Mrs Evans (the line is operated by Mr and Mrs Evans on a lease from the council).
The railway may close at the end of the 2003 season, as the owner/operator is retiring from his main business and moving away from the area.

The bomber jacket clan that have descended on Felixstowe and turned it into a bloody London suburb on the seafront, which is what i try to escape from when i leave the london suburb i live in.
Sea, promenade, martello towers, Felixstowe Ferry hamlet, swimming pool (Leisure Centre), Hamilton Road, the Town Hall, The Grove (woodland), most local pubs and cafes, sailing boats, Spa Pavilion cafe, beach huts, Felixsowe is not as bad as has been painted.
No decent shops in Felixstowe but Ipswich (nearby) is better one half decent record shop (IANS RECORDS), even if you can't find what you're looking for, he's a dead friendly chap who likes to spend all day talking so go in.

There were also stations at Felixstowe Beach (closed in 1959), Orwell situated north of Nacton village (closed 1959) and Derby Road in Ipswich.
The original Felixstowe Railway and Pier Company opened their line for passengers between Westerfield and Felixstowe Pier (in the present day docks) on the 1st May 1877.
Follow the track down to a wooden barrier and on to a concrete railway overbridge carrying the dock spur line for freight trains into the port.
