	MAHONING TOWNSHIP
		He located afterwards in Washington County, Pennsylvania, and in 1796 came with his wife and several children to what is now Mahoning Township, Lawrence County, and settled on a 400-acre tract belonging to Judge Alexander Wright, getting 100 acres for settling.

		The first known mention of a school in Ridley Township was in the August 22, 1778 issue of the Pennsylvania Packet Newspaper.
		The school was built to replace the Grace School in the 900 block of Fairview Road and to give the new town of Milmont a school for their children.
		As the meeting of the board of education of Ridley township held Monday evening in the Leiperville school, a delegation of the citizens of Milmont were present with a petition asking that a school house be r\erected in that place.

		The Pennsylvania Superintendent of Public Instruction, testifying by deposition in the Schempp case, offered his view that daily Bible reading "places upon the children or those hearing the reading of this, and the atmosphere which goes on in the reading.
		The record demonstrates that it was the intention of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to introduce a religious ceremony into the public schools of the Commonwealth." 201 F. Supp., at 819.

		Located near the center of the township, with a large level lot for expansion, the Richland School building cost $71,000 and opened with an enrollment of 350.
		The earliest of the churches now located in Richland Township is the Methodist Church at Bakerstown, which was organized in 1832, the original building having been erected on ground donated by James Jones, and the brick for the same was made from clay taken from the old Baker Cemetery.
		The church was built in 1838 and remodeled in 1883, was partially burned in 1890, and rebuilt in 1891.

		On August 22, 1831, Daniel and Elizabeth Coit of Norwich Connecticut deeded to the Trustees of Concord Township and their successors forever the Concord Township Public Grounds located on the corner of Old Route State 44 and state Route 608.
		The property that was referred to as the Commons was to be used for the benefit of the citizens of Concord Township.

		There are many other interesting bits of information in the booklet, such as the fact that Northampton Township has the longest covered bridge in Bucks County - perhaps the nation's best-known county for this picturesque relic of the past.
		An interesting contrast to Henry Wynkoop was Sara T. Rorer of this township who in the 1890's was known as the "Queen of Cookery." She was the author of The Philadelphia Cookbook, the most famous cookbook of the century, and presided over the "corn kitchen" at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893.
		The American Revolution Bicentennial Commission encourages townships and counties throughout the country to make this kind of worthwhile effort in local research.
