 Felpham Flower Festival
The Felpham Flower Festival coincided with the Open Gardens event in the village and also included a champagne reception in the church on Thursday to launch the Festival, and a jam-packed Festival Concert on the Friday evening.
Blake also wrote most of his Milton (1804) at Felpham and the preface to this particular work is famous as the words of the hymn 'Jerusalem'.
Timothy Peskett (announced as the part time organist!) displayed his prowess at the organ with a Toccata in G and another highlight for me was when Jack Enticott, son of Sue Endicott (Village Voices) accompanied his mother on guitar whilst she very movingly read 'The Trees' by Phillip Larkin.

The Felpham goal was under almost continuous attack, both Sole and Hayley Plummer hitting the post and Jane Quilley seeing her shot well saved.
However midway through the half Felpham broke away and scored, this reverse stunned Heath into more attack and minutes later Plummer skillfully turned the defender and shot high into the net to restore the 2 goal advantage.
Felpham scored from a penalty soon after the game restarted which gave them heart, and for a while Heath were on the defensive, with keeper Helen Bashford saving well.

In 1909 Felpham had an apparent shortage of premises for religious provision and it was to fall principally to one lady to remedy this.
One of their number was aware that there was in Felpham a small premise that was described as a 'tin hut.' The hut was situated in the Flansham area and the group contacted the owners, who were members of a sect known as the Loxwood Independants.
The Felpham Methodist Church was built at a road junction which has seen many changes and the church has witnessed the increasing population of Felpham, Middleton and Elmer, an area that Alice Boyling felt was "out east" in 1932.

Felpham church commenced around 1100 and has had many extensions and additions throughout the years.
Eventually the Barn in Felpham opened in 1972 and this was originally an old flint building that had been converted into a private residence in 1920.
The people who are involved in many of the groups, councils etc. are still all working towards generating the ‘feel of a village.’ Many of the groups in the village are also pressing ahead with conservation and preservation of the village and their work should be applauded.

From kick off Chichester found Felpham to be a well organised and hard working team and so they knew this was going to be a hard fought game.Early pressure from both sides brought excellent saves from the goalkeepers.
Felpham came back into the game in the game in the second half and only a fine save from Chichester’s goalkeeper Iraj Massoumian kept out a well placed Felpham free kick.
Felpham never gave up and there effort was repaid with a goal midway through the second half, but shortly after this the game was put beyond all doubt when an effort by Jonathan Tallent could not be kept out by the Felpham keeper.

I haven't been able to find > Felpham on my English roadway map, but in his correspondence Blake suggests > that it is near Chichester, which looks to be about half-way between > Brighton and Southampton.
Hi - Felpham is still there, close to Bognor Regis in Sussex.

Felpham Community College is an expanding 8 form-entry 11 — 18, comprehensive school, which draws its students primarily from the villages of Felpham, Middleton-on-Sea and Elmer and the town of Bognor Regis — although we have many applications for admission from outside our catchment area and currently are full/oversubscribed in most years.
The current number on roll is 1306 with 177 students in the Sixth Form (following A Level and GNVQ courses) but we are set to expand to 1400 by 2003.
The College is set on a large, pleasant site in Felpham, close to a good residential area and within easy reach of the sea.

Blake was fond of the village and wrote 'Away to sweet Felpham for heaven is there: The ladder of Angels descends through the air, On the turret its spiral does softly descend, Through the village it winds, at my cot it does end.
Sadly 'The Turret' to which Blake refers to in his prose about Felpham was demolished some years ago to make way for modern housing.

In World War II, while Kay's husband and brother Alan were away serving in the Royal Artillery, her mother, Amy Roberts, by then widowed, moved to the seaside village of Felpham in Sussex with Kay and the two children.

Paul Hemsley (Burghfield) had taken control of the third position up the first beat but was pushed hard on all the down wind legs by Ross Fisher (Felpham) who showed outstanding wave sailing technique.
Jones came back at Lyons on the second beat but was unable to get through and Lyons was able to slowly pull away to take first place with Jones in second and Hemsley holding off Fisher to take third.

We were on our holidays in the South Coast resort of Felpham and I was eight years old.
That night, the curtains opened to a line of high-kicking chorus girls singing 'We're in Favour of Friendship." Uncle J. leaned forward keenly, Auntie Iris said something to the effect that this was "romance," but I was fascinated by the backdrop painting.
Certainly the scene was of Felpham, but this was another Felpham, an ethereal watering spot of blue skies, silver sands, gleaming pier, and dreaming tall hotels.
