Fendalton is a suburb of Christchurch, in the South Island of New Zealand.
Fendalton has a reputation as one of the country's more well-to-do and refined suburbs, and is one of the older residential districts of the city.
Fendalton Park (originally a Domain) was a gift to the community from the Misses Kate and Rose Gerard (sisters of Mary Rutherford) whose family home "Willowbrook" stood approximately at the present location of Willowbrook Place, off Fendalton Road.

The house at 89 Fendalton Road, called "Ringloes", was a simple wooden colonial home of the type built all over New Zealand in the 1850s through to the 1870s.
She was something of a character, driving a pony-cart wearing a porkpie hat and Norfolk jacket with a long skirt.
She walked to Fendalton School where the Headmaster was Ray Blank.

 Fendalton library extends Saturday hours and fixes parking issues
Fendalton Community Library is planning a special celebration on Saturday 7 May, when it doubles its Saturday opening hours.
Fendalton Community Librarian Margaret Clune says the new Saturday hours will mean more local people can make use of the library: “Being open on Saturday afternoons is much more convenient for a lot of people who’d like to use the library at the weekend.
Fendalton’s new hours are the final stage in an overhaul of opening times across the city, resulting in the 13 Christchurch City Libraries now opening for an extra 39.5 hours each week.

The Fendalton Tennis Club will now be known as the Burnside Park Tennis Club (Inc).
The name change has been an issue before the club for many years since the club moved to Burnside Park in 1976/77.

There was later criticism of Christchurch being sited in swampy country when firmer land was available, but transport difficulties, already bad enough, would have been worse had the settlement been developed further from the coast.
Fendalton stands on a shingle fan of the Waimakariri River, but Lower Riccarton lies between two shingle lobes.
Fendalton also had no store until after the turn of the century and no school until 1883.

In the 1920s Fendalton was still the rural fringe of Christchurch.
The house was built in 1929 for a wool buyer, Stephen Wade; unfortunately shortly after the family moved in one of their children was tragically drowned in the bordering Wairarapa Stream.
As an investment the brothers bought the land from Clyde Road to Fendalton School and built their workshop and several shops, which they rented out, on the corner.

Fendalton Bowling Club is situated in the south eastern corner of the idyllic, 5 hectare Fendalton Park.
A group of home guardsmen from the Fendalton Company of the Home Guard was instrumental in the beginnings of the Bowling Club in 1942.

I offer in response to this feeling my reflection – that we do consider God is calling to move to Fendalton – if that is so, He is already calling a new priest to Whitkirk.
Now is a time of prayer – yes, we would like prayer, but the people of Whitkirk Church must begin to pray for those who will be charged to appoint my successor, and to begin to pray for that priest.
