A Brief History of Fenny Stratford
Fenny Stratford's history owes much to the Roman occupation of Britain and crucially to a Roman military route of the mid 1st century A.D. that was later to become known as Watling Street, north from London, the modern A5.
Much of this road north from the Thames, perhaps from St. Albans, seems to follow the advance of the XIVth Legion which by the late 50's A.D. had established a fortress base at Wroxeter, spawning camps and settlements along the way.
Magiovinium, a Roman small defended town straddling Watling Street, close to Fenny Stratford and the river Ouzel, probably succeeded a small auxiliary fort of this early Roman phase.

A Brief History of Fenny Stratford
In 1895 Fenny Straford Urban District Council was created and by 1898 included Simpson and Bletchley, which had continued to expand since the arrival of the railway.
The former village of Bletchley absorbed Warter Eaton in 1934 and began to dominate the town of Fenny Stratford.
One result of this was the ‘trees’ estate, a London ‘overspill’ development stretching from Fenny Stratford down to Water Eaton, which effectively filled a gap and joined the two separate communities.

For just over 60 years Fenny Stratford Repeater Station stood on Watling Street, just south of the bridge over the Grand Union Canal.
Stratford was roughly halfway between London and Birmingham, therefore it was an ideal location for the repeater station, as early long-distance telephone circuits had to be amplified around every 50 miles.
What made it of local interest was the fact it was one of the first repeater stations to be built in this country, and the two large single cylinder heavy oil engines that were installed there to generate the electricity required by the apparatus.
