Ferlin Husky (born December 3, 1925 in Flat River, Missouri) is an American singer who has become well-known as a country-pop chart-topper under various names, including Terry Preston and Simon Crum.
In the 1950s and 60s, Husky had several hits, including "Gone" and "Wings of a Dove", both number ones on the country charts.
In the late 1950s, Husky had a long string of hits, including the #1 "Gone", and he bgan an acting career on the Kraft TV Theatre program and the film Mr.

In 1948 Husky signed with 4-Star Records, in part because he knew that the Maddox Brothers and Rose, one of the dominant West Coast country groups of the 1940s, was signed to that label.
Husky's father, abetted by Capitol Records producer Ken Nelson, had finally convinced Ferlin that his given name had as good a "country" ring as any he might invent.
Husky had few hits in the years that followed, but in 1967 he reached the Top 10 with "Once." And in 1974 he made the charts with two singles: "Freckles and Polliwog Days" and "Champagne Ladies and Blue Ribbon Babies," both written or co-written by his old friend and protege, Dallas Frazier.

Ferlin's a complex performer, with many different styles and moods over the years, and many names as well.
His real name is in fact Ferlin Husky, but he began in show business under the name "Tex Terry" and released his first record, "Remembrance Of Franklin D" (1949), under the pseudonym Terry Preston.
From 1953 to 1955, Ferlin spelled his last name "Huskey", and it was during these years that Ferlin developed a rather Andy Kaufman-like alter ego named Simon Crum, who began to rack up hits and have a career of his own.

In 1984, Ferlin was signed by MCA who released a video of his called Truck Drivin' Son of a Gun." He then began to build the Wings of a Dove Museum in Hendersonville, Tennessee, which soon became part of Conway Twitty's Twitty City.
Ferlin Husky's ability was not limited to that of a country/pop singer.
Ferlin Husky may not be among the best all-time record sellers, but he certainly is one of the most versatile.

Husky learned to play guitar as a child and during World War II served in the US Merchant Navy.
In 1953, as Ferlin Huskey, he recorded "A Dear John Letter" with Jean Shepard, which became a smash US country number 1, as well as reaching number 4 on the US pop charts.
Husky has been married six times and has nine children, one of whom is called Terry Preston.

There may be other Ferlin Husky collections available, and I have a few, but if you have stumbled across this one: BUY IT.
Ferlin was known as Terry Preston in his earlier life in radio and stage performances but when Tennessee Ernie Ford's manager took him in hand and got him a contract, he went back to the name he had when he was born in Missouri.
Ferlin was a favorite of Dean Martin who enjoyed country music and had Ferlin on his show.
