Fermin Muguruza - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fermin Muguruza ( Irún, Guipúzcoa, Spain) is a Basque nationalist rock musician, singer, songwriter, producer and disc label manager.
Muguruza has taken part in more than twenty albums, and is one of the most important artists from the Basque Country.
In an international level, Fermin Muguruza holds acute left-wing views that lead him to criticize U.S. government, corporations and the globalization process, all of which he denounces as imperialistic and homogenizing apparatus.

Fermin Muguruza was born in Irun, Spain in the early 60´s.
Muguruza was the lead vocalist for the bands "Negu Gorriak", "Kortatu" and "Dut" and between the three approximately 10 albums were released.
His grounds are evident: Muguruza experienced the last days of the Spanish dictatorship under Franco, witnessed the imprisonment of people simply for expressing their political convictions and the struggle of the Basque separatists with the Spanish government.

Muguruza sings in Basque (euskara), one of the oldest European tongues and one still actively spoken today.
Fermin Muguruza, while cheering those who fight for solidarity and the preservation of their historical heritage, broadly condemns suffering: "Don't forget anything / Don't forget anyone / We will denounce the suffering of anybody." This is a positive and literally upbeat side of the Basque independence movement.
Although at first one would imagine his fierce pride and support for Basque recognition to be at odds with the interconnection of the many nations represented in his songs and by the singers and musicians on the CD, one soon realises the intelligence of recognising that other groups have the same right to a voice.

As the prime mover behind Kortatu and Negu Gorriak, two of the fiercest rocking punk-rooted bands you probably never heard, Fermín Muguruza is almost certainly the single most important catalyst in the development of the radical, Basque language rock/punk scene that flowered in the '80s and '90s.
All of which sounds way too no-fun didactic but fortunately, Muguruza is also a musical true believer in the pure sonic power of memorable hooks, rampaging rhythms, and high energy that connect on a gut physical level.
But Muguruza's dub mentality is definitely a modern world one, where choices revolve around which global dance flavors to mix into a reggae-rooted rhythm foundation.

On FM 99.00 Dub Manifest, Fermin Muguruza (a Basque singer from Spain) demonstrates that the Basque language can be perfectly compatible with a reggae or ska beat.
Muguruza's music is adventurous and quite unorthodox -- it isn't every day that you hear someone who mixes alternative rock with ska and reggae singing in Basque.
Muguruza's lyrics are highly sociopolitical, although most listeners won't understand them because Basque isn't one of the world's more widely spoken languages.
