Fermoy (Mainistir Fhear Maigh in Irish) in County Cork, Republic of Ireland is a town of some 4,800 inhabitants, environs included (2002 census), situated on the River Blackwater in the south of Ireland.
Fermoy was the site of a major British Army barracks when Ireland was under imperial rule.
Fermoy is in a very scenic location, in the Blackwater valley, nestled at the foot of the Galtee Mountains.

John Collins, with an address at Francis Street in Fermoy, was brought before a special sitting of Mitchelstown District Court last night.
The court was told that Mr Collins was charged earlier with the murder of 60-year-old John Mahon of St Bernard's Place in Fermoy.
The solicitor for Mr Collins, Gerry Healy, applied for free legal aid saying his client was on medication and in receipt of long-term disability benefit.

We stayed in the scout hall in Fermoy courteous of the 18th/19th Cork Fermoy Scout Group.
