FernanddeBrinon (born August 26, 1885 - died April 15, 1947) was a French lawyer and journalist who was one of the architects of collaboration with the Nazis during World War II.
FernanddeBrinon married Jeanne Louise Rachel Franck, a Jewish divorcée known as "Lisette." They became leading socialites in 1930s Paris, and close friends of the political right-wing elite.
As the third ranking member of the Vichy regime and because of his enthusiastic support for the fascist cause, deBrinon's importance to the Nazis was such that he able to obtain a special pass for his Jewish wife that exempted her from deportation to a German concentration camp.
Vichy France, or the Vichy regime was the de facto French government of 1940-1944 during the Nazi Germany occupation of World War II, based at and named after the town of Vichy.
The Vichy government's claim to be the de jure French government was challenged by the Free French Forces of Charles de Gaulle, based first in London and later in Algiers, and French governments ever since have held that the Vichy regime was an illegal government run by traitors.
Nevertheless, De Gaulle convinced Churchill to allow his forces to participate, although De Gaulle was forced to agree to a joint British-Free French proclamation promising that Syria and Lebanon would become fully independent at the end of the war.
Vichy France or the Vichy regime (French: now called Rgime de Vichy or Vichy; called itself at the time tat Franais, or French State) was the de facto French government of 1940-1944 (but Nazi Germany invaded the zone under its control in 1942 in Case Anton).
Under Darnand and sub-commanders, such as Paul Touvier and Jacques de Bernonville, the Milice was responsible for the suppression of the French Resistance and the Maquis.
Others fled or went into hiding, such as Jacques de Bernonville who went to Qubec, while some were not prosecuted for their crimes until much later, or at all.
A notable example was the "Légion Française des Combattants" (L.F.C.) (French Legion of Fighters), including at first only former combatants, but quickly adding "Amis de la Légion" and cadets of the Légion, who had never seen battle, but were supporters of his dictatorial regime.
He was killed on December 24, 1942 in Algiers by the young monarchist Bonnier de La Chapelle, with the real power in mainland France devolving into the hands of Laval.
Under Darnand and his sub-commanders, such as Paul Touvier and Jacques de Bernonville, the Milice was responsible for helping the German forces and police in the repression of the French Resistance and Maquis.
After World War I, he advocated a rapprochement with Germany along the lines being promoted by some of right leaning politicians such as Edouard Daladier and Paul Reynaud.
As the third ranking member of the Vichy regime and becaquse of his enthusiastic support for the fascist cause, deBrinon's importance to the Nazis was such that he able to obtain a special pass for his Jewish wife that exempted her from deportation to a German concentration camp.
With the march of the Allied Forces towards Paris in 1944, deBrinon and his wife tried to flee the country but were caught and returned to Paris for trial.

On July 12, 1940, Laval became vice-premier and named FernanddeBrinon to lead negotiations with the Germans.
Laval was enthusiastically pro-Nazi; his demands for a Franco-German military alliance led to him being sacked from the government and arrested in December 13, 1940.
He was injured in an assassination attempt on August 27, 1941 at a ''Légion des Volontaires Français'' review but recovered and was recalled into the Vichy government on April 18, 1942.
