		CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) has ordered the closure of more than 150 industrial units in the two major industrial cities of Punjab, Ludhiana and Jalandhar, for discharging untreated waste water containing highly toxic and hazardous chemicals in the rivers and canals.
		The untreated effluent from the units had been polluting the Sutlej river, which is the source of drinking water in many Punjab cities including Muktsar, Bhatinda and Ferozepur.
		PPCB chairman Tripat Inder Singh Bajwa said the board decided to crack the whip on the erring units after it was found that they had been flouting the pollution norms and ignoring the warning of the state government.
