 Ferrari 456
Whereas the outgoing Berlina's had gradually lost more and more ground on their mid-engined counterparts, Ferrari were keen to ensure the 456 was a match for its two-seat models.
Inside, the new model was luxuriously appointed with full Connolly leather and a classic open gate shift, but the 456 also introduced innovations like windows that marginally lowered when the doors were opened to allow compressed air to escape from the cockpit.
Launched at the FF40 International Ferrari Celebrations held in Brussels and at the Spa Francorchamps racing circuit during September 1992, the 456 was an immediate hit - never before had a Ferrari of this type combined the looks and performance of a two-seat Berlinetta with an interior spacious enough for four.

 1995 Ferrari 456 GT - RussoandSteele.com
The 456 GT took the luxury 2+2 coupe theme to new heights and saw Ferrari return to the front-engine concept for the first time since the 1968 365 GTB4.
Due to the Grand Touring nature of the 456 fundamentals, many were fitted with the more practical automatic transmission.
Continuing the “Gentleman’s Ferrari” tradition, the subtle lines of the 456 do not scream “Ferrari” but rather hint at the sophistication and class of this return of the classic front engine V12.

Ferrari is expensive to fix 10x's that of the germans, but if you are into cars and have the money go for it..
The trouble with a 5+ year old Ferrari is that they are affordable enough to tempt a person into buying their boyhood dream rather than say a new (er) practical executive car.
The upside is that a 5-year old Ferrari has depreciated so much it will not fall in value as a new car but is balanced by the cost to keep on the road.

 Ferrari 456 GT
It made me wonder, though, whether a car like that had any real advantage over a car like mine, so I took the opportunity to look over the 456 GT that was here at Baynards at the time, and I was agreeably surprised.
There's one very obvious vent along each side, which presumably carries away heat from the huge disc brakes, and which subtly lifts the overall effect of the body, which might otherwise seem a little plain, as did its 70s predecessor, the 356GT.
At a price tag of over £160000 new, and with these gorgeous interior appointments, no-one is likely to spoil a Ferrari 456GT by using it for racing or rallying purposes, so its maximum performance, which is, of course, rivetting, is largely academic.

Ferrari 456GT review | Used Car Reviews | Driving - Times Online
Ferrari marketed it as a 2+2, but only the very small would be prepared to travel any distance in the back.
When Ferrari created the 456 it wanted it to be robustly engineered, believing that the best advertisement for its cars was for them to be seen being used on an everyday basis.
In this aim Ferrari succeeded, and while replacement parts and servicing are never going to be cheap, the 456 is less likely to require major work to its engine or gearbox than are other models.

At the Geneva Motor Show, Ferrari introduced a special two-tone version of the 456M GT as a further example of the opportunities offered by the Carrozzeria Scaglietti personalisation programme, presently adopted by 90% of Ferrari’s clientele.
In the case of the 456M GT displayed on the Ferrari stand, apparently intended for Michael Schumacher, the dominant characteristic is the two-tone paint finish.
This elegant “tone on tone” colour mix was obtained through a specific study on the chromatic tones of grey, then also applied to other exterior details such as the wheels and the radiator grille.

I have worked with Ferrari and BMW in both road and motosport guises and I would honestly say that a Ferrari V12 or V8, when properly serviiced and used regularly is mechanically more sound than a BMW M3.
